Class Descriptions

Parent Tot – Dancers can join this class as soon as they can walk. It is typically held for ages 1.5-2.5 but can start a little earlier or continue a little longer if dancers aren’t quite ready for independent classes.

Creative movement – This is a new class for dancers who have just finished parent-tot or for dancers who are 2 years old and can go into class independently. This class focuses on a ballet foundation with added props, gross motor skill work, imaginative learning, learning about feelings, basic tumbling, rhythm, singing friends, and fun!

Pre-KinderDance (ballet & tap) – This class is designed for ages 2 1⁄2 4 who are fully ready for independent classes. It is primarily ballet with a half-hour class in this genre teaching proper technique, terminology, and placement, and a fun and “magical environment.” After the ballet portion, dancers put on their tap shoes for the last 10 minutes and are taught an intro to tap. This helps dancers learn to keep rhythm and count the music. (45 min)

OpenKinder (ballet & tap) – This class is designed for dancers ages 3 to 5. It is a ballet/tap combo class. Dancers learn ballet through center floor movement, progressions, partnering, and independent. (45 min) 

KinderDance (ballet & tap) – This class is designed for dancers ages 4 (with experience) to beginner 6’s. It is a ballet/tap combo class. Dancers learn proper ballet terminology, ballet through center floor movement, progressions, partnering, and independent dance. It also includes stretching, body awareness, and how to work in groups. They are introduced to the ballet barre in KinderDance, as well. The tap portion reviews rhythm, timing, basic tap steps, and combinations. (1 hr)

Tot-Hop – This class is an introduction to hip-hop for our tiny dancers who are ready to shake it! This is a fun recreational class for dancers ages 3-6. Basic popping, locking, and hip-hop basics – with age-appropriate music. Fun times!

Little Lyrical – This class is an introduction to Lyrical for ages 3-6. With this genre, dancers portray the words of the song through movement and emotion. It is recommended that dancers be enrolled in PreKinder, Kinder, or Open Kinder along with this class, as this is an add-on class where some of the terminology and techniques are used from the core classes.

Broadway Babies – This class is an introduction to musical theater for ages 4-7. It will help dancers to start using their emotions, tell stories, act, and learn about different musicals.

Cheer/ Pom/Tumble– upbeat class created to teach Pom dance and tumble to dancers. Pom dance is similar to jazz with poms and utilizes lots of visuals, ripples, levels, etc. Many colleges do pom, as well as professional teams. This is an introductory course.

Tumbling/Acro – Workout in floor tumbling and acro, beginner through advanced. Pre-Acro/Tiny Tumble is for prekinder and kinder level dancers.

Jazz – This class will focus on learning proper dance technique, such as isolations of the body, improving performance quality, and developing complex rhythms and patterns. Students will be exposed to various styles of jazz, such as Broadway, Street, and Contemporary, to help develop a well-rounded dancer. Jazz class includes a proper warm-up, stretches, isolations, across-the-floor progressions, and combinations, jazz turns, leaps, and much more. As students progress through each level curriculum will become increasingly more complex and intricate.

Ballet – Students will focus on building the strength, flexibility, and control needed to execute ballet moves. Each class will emphasize barre exercises and may also include a combination of center floor work and across-the-floor combinations. Pointe – by director approval only.

Lyrical – Students will explore partnering and weight-sharing exercises combined with basic techniques and skills from ballet, jazz, and modern. It emphasizes the interpretation of music lyrics while telling a story with movement that can be fluid or abstract. As students progress through each level curriculum will become increasingly more complex and intricate.

Hip-Hop – This class is a high-energy class that infuses the latest styles of street dancing, breaking, popping, and locking. Classes will encourage students to step outside of the box by bringing their own individual style and personality to the movements.

Musical Theater – Dancers will focus on a different Broadway musical each month. They will use music from that musical to make a dance and learn to portray the characters in the musical through their dancing and acting skills. Different exercises are also done to help dancers learn acting skills.

Modern – a form of contemporary theatrical and concert dance employing a special technique for developing the use of the entire body in movements expressive of abstract ideas. Must be enrolled in a ballet class. A dancer must be enrolled in ballet to enroll in this class.

Contemporary – Expressive dance that combines several elements of several dance genres, including modern, jazz, lyrical, and ballet. Dancers must be enrolled in ballet to enroll in this class.
